"Gaea is the Earth goddess in Greek mythology, Terra Mater, the eldest of the gods, who emerged out of Chaos and gave birth as she slept to her son Uranus (Ouranos), the Sky god. He showered fertile rain upon her secret clefts as he gazed down fondly upon her from the mountains, and she bore grass, flowers, trees, and birthed the astounding array of birds and beasts to populate them. The fertile rain of Uranus also made the rivers flow and lakes and seas came into being when the hollow places filled with water."

The three shown here are of Gaea, Earth Mother.

Gaea, also referred to as Gaia, Ge, or Terra Mater, is the first Goddess to be mentioned in Greek mythology; she is the daughter of Chaos.  She is personified as "Mother Nature" or "Mother Earth."

Infinitely fertile, she gave birth to the sky (Uranus) and the sea (Pontus).  From her sprang forth the mountains, rivers, and plains that make up the Earth today.

She is the Mother of All Things - people, plants, and beasts -giving and taking life.

Forever nurturing, she gifts humankind with happy marriages, healthy children, and all the abundance of the world and its yearly harvest.

In ancient Greece, oaths sworn to Gaea were considered the most binding of all.

"The consort of the Goddess and symbol of male energy in the form of the divine, The Horned God reigns. He is the lord of the woodlands, the hunt and animals. He provides for the tribe through the hunt and is honored or rewarded for his deed by being permitted to copulate with the Goddess through the Great Rite.

The Horned God is is the lord of life, death, and the underworld.  He is the Sun to the Goddess' Moon. He alternates with the Goddess in ruling over the fertility cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. He is born at the winter solstice, unites with the Goddess in marriage at Beltane, and begins to die at the summer solstice to bring fertility to the land."

At Samhain, He dies and then brings souls of departed loved ones through the veil.

THE HORNED GOD

The Horned God is known to some as Herne, and to others as Cernunnos or Pan or Faunus.  He is the Great Father and the Lord of the Forest and animals; consort to the Lady.  He is represented by the sun -- He who dies at Samhain and is reborn to the Goddess at Yule -- birth, death, and rebirth.  Represented by the Sun, eternally chasing and hunting the moon across the sky, the waxing and waning of the sun represents the Wheel of the Year.

He is vitality, virility, strength, logic, power, and fertility.  He is both the Hunter and the Hunted -- one who slays so we may live, but also one who dies to nourish others in the natural cycle of the seasons.  Yet, He is gentle and compassionate in a masculine way, providing for both animals and humans.

Approximately 2" x 2", these are the perfect size for use on your altar or to decorate your home.
