Welcome
to Our Page!
Thanks for taking the time to look at our page and get to know us.
In 1993, Snow, Aurora, Zara, and Megwynne formed the first incarnation of the Star of Serenity, but we didn't have a name back then. We practiced rituals together informally and honored the Goddess and the Elements.
The second incarnation of Serenity happened in 1996, and Aurora and Megwynne shared High Priestess duties. Otto became our High Priest. At this time, we became a more "formal" group. We began holding formal rituals for Sabbats and Full Moons. We called ourselves The Circle of the Name Still Under Construction, as we couldn't decide on just the right name. As we were still learning and changing, it sort of just fit. We were under major construction then.
In 1998 and 1999, Ozius and Raven became members. At this time, we formally became The United Circle of the Star of Serenity. I know you've been wondering about where the heck our name came from, haven't you? :) We arrived at this unusual name by having each member choose a word, which we strung together to create the Circle's name. This way, we all had a chance to have our input on the Coven name. The word "Crystalline" was in there, too, at one time, but we dropped it. Grin. Although we still stand united, we dropped that, too, and are now just "Circle of the Star of Serenity." Just sounds a little better in my humble opinion. Who knows? Maybe as we grow and change, we'll come to be known by a different name at some point. 2006 and 2007 saw the addition of three new members, but it was Efthalia who became our Coven Maiden. At Yule 2008, Elwynn Ciro joined us, followed by Psyche at Beltane in 2009. 2010 leads us in a slightly different direction with Granite being voted in as an Honorary Elder, and Megwynne stepping down as High Priestess.
Now that you know a little about our Circle's history, let me tell you what we're about. In 1996, we began to think about "what we'd like to do as a group." We decided that we wanted to be a "teaching Circle." One of our goals was to help spread the word about Wicca and Paganism. Our religion is often a misunderstood one, and we'd like to teach others about what we do and, most especially, do not do. Paganism is about being more in tune with ourselves, with the Goddess and God within each of us, and with the world. We happily accept newcomers to the Craft and try to help them find their way down their path. Finding a teacher can be difficult for newcomers, and practicing with a group of like-minded people can be very fulfilling. So, we chose to be more open and "teach." Members who have been practicing for many years are also welcome.
One thing I feel makes our group different is every member has a part in setting up the Circle. We're still small (about 4 members), so we can do that. Everyone has "job" to do. We've found it makes everyone feel as if they are participating in the Circle and not just watching the Circle. As our members progress in rank, we encourage them to help write and perform Sabbats and rituals with the Coven.
Our group holds classes with guest speakers making presentations. Topics we are learning about this year include palmistry, Reiki, candle making, meditation, and past life regression. We take "field trips" to different places and events of interest. In 2007, we went to a ghost-tour, to Pagan Pride Day, a cornfield maze, Salem, and the SEMAPPD Faery Ball. 2008 found us creating our own website, MySpace, and and becoming members of the Rehoboth Witches' Meetup Group as well as the Fall River Spiritual Practitioners' Group. In addition, we spent much time that summer crafting and selling our wares both online and at SEMAPPD's Pagan Pride Day! It left little time for "field trips," but we had a lot of fun. 2009 didn't necessarily bring us the balance we hoped to find, but we continued to support SEMAPPD and visited Salem in October. This year, in 2010, we've learned a bit about the Native pathway and animal totems. Our plans for 2011 are just beginning. As always, I wonder what it will bring?
To see some pictures from past events we attended, click here. Above all, we strive to be a circle of friends who enjoy spending time with each other, and our Coven is stronger because of it.
We meet on a monthly basis and discuss where we, as a group, want to go in the future -- what areas of interest we would like to learn more about, places we wish to travel to, and other general Coven business. Our group is more or less a democracy. All members pay $10 a month as "dues." This money is used to purchase Coven supplies as well as pay for guest speakers, our web space, and admission costs when we attend events.
Where are we going in the future? I'm not sure yet. We have been trying to get our name out there more. At this time, we are looking to expand and are accepting new members. For more information on attending one of our events as a guest, please email info@starofserenity.com. Again, thanks for taking the time to learn more about us!
