These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...

NEVER STOP GROWING... "When you think you know it all, then you deny yourself the opportunity to learn anything new. When you decide that you have seen it all, you cut yourself off from new and enlightening experiences. Every day is an opportunity to grow. Always take advantage of that opportunity, for it is a big part of what makes you alive. No matter how much you have already accomplished, you can still receive great benefit from new challenges. No matter what your level of learning and experience, you can always raise that level higher. When you think you have all the answers, get busy and find some more questions. View each new discovery as a starting point, not a final destination. The joy in life is in the journey; the fulfillment of life is in the growing.
Keep that growing
going, and never ~Ralph Marston

My daughter, Efthalia, gave me my first tattoo as a present. I've always wanted to get something... even if I am neurotic about WHERE it's going. In many ways, I have this thing about traditional values... which is also strange in that I have chosen a non-traditional religion. Guess that means I've got some strange duality going on? Anyway, the tattoo I got is of Earth Mother, Gaea, my patron Goddess. Here is a pic of what I had done:
Okay, first let me remind everyone of what I have said previously... this is my first tattoo. It is also my last and only tattoo. Took me FOREVER to figure out an "appropriate" place to put it (in my eyes)... and darn it!!That SMARTS! Why anyone would voluntarily do this to themselves repetitively in beyond me!! Nonetheless, I braved it out, and my little Earth Mother is residing happily on my toe. So far, every time I look at her, I smile and am reminded that I was created in the image of my Goddess. Finally having decided what I wanted, and having found the courage to say, "Let's just DO it before I chicken out," we headed off to Wareham to Sinners and Saints. I had to wait about 45 minutes before they could take me. This only increased my anxiety, naturally. But, when they called me, I was ready to go. Here's a pic of me before he began. Special thanks to Efthalia for letting me break her hand -- as well as taking these oh, so attractive shots of me. Couldn't you have reminded me to put on makeup before we left the house or found a better angle or something? I don't really look like this, do I? Grin.
The stencil was put on, and at first, it wasn't too bad. The outline was a piece of cake... sat there saying, "I went through 12 hours of labor, this is just annoying..."
As the process went on, and he began the shading, he hit a couple of places right on the bone that really stung. This was the result... again, special thanks to Efthalia for capturing this highly attractive moment for me. Grin. I've been through worse, but it was, let's say... less than comfortable.
Here's the finished product:
As I said earlier, I do love my little tattoo... She's beautiful, and special to me... Thank you, Efthalia for giving me this really awesome gift. :) Thank you to Granite for paying for me to have it done AGAIN because it's on my FOOT and the first one didn't heal well... Pushin' Ink in Middleborough did a FANTASTIC job retouching it and guaranteed the work! I made the same faces as above AGAIN, by the way. But, Earth Mother looks wonderful on my toe.
